Watermelon Tadka Fizz

Watermelon with black salt is something every roadside vendor in India already knows. Add the jeera-kali mirch tadka and the soda fizz, and you've just made the most honest Indian summer drink there is.

Prep Time: 5 Min
Ready in: 5 Min
Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 sachet Cool Drink Tadka
  • 2 cups fresh watermelon juice (blended, strained)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp water (to dissolve the masala)
  • 1 cup chilled soda water or plain soda
  • Fresh mint leaves and ice to serve

Preparation

  1. Blend watermelon pieces and strain through a fine sieve to get clean juice. Chill it.
  2. In a small cup, dissolve your Cool Drink Tadka sachet in 2 tbsp water and the juice of half a lemon. Stir until the black salt and spices fully dissolve - about 30 seconds.
  3. Fill two tall glasses with ice and mint. Pour the watermelon juice equally into both glasses.
  4. Divide the spice mixture between the glasses, then pour soda from the top. Watch the fizz hit. Stir once gently and serve immediately.

TIP
The kala namak (black salt) in this masala brings out the sweetness of watermelon in a way regular salt cannot. It's chemistry - and it's already coded in your sachet.
